Election 2016

The project involved redesigning RTÉ’s general election coverage. In a momentous year for Irish politics, the challenge was to create a fresh and energetic look, adaptable and enduring for future by-elections or referendums. The identity is both positive and strong. It conveys the lively spirit of election time while remaining polished to reflect the professionalism of RTÉ’s coverage. The logo is reminiscent of an election rosette and the seating of Dail Éireann, with branding colours reflecting the abundance and diversity of the new contesting parties. The logo mark expands into the title sequence, revealing a system of parts that shift and twist, suggesting the fluid nature of politics. This evolving activity is contained within the logo – affirming RTÉ One as the home of election coverage. Blocks of colour featured in the title translate across the fullscreen, lower third and touchscreen graphics. Results are presented through clean, two-dimensional designs with emphasis on simplicity and colour.
