Tootoomoo Restaurant, London

The brief for this project was to create a bustling restaurant and takeaway space showcasing Tootoomoo’s Pan-Asian street food brand within the London suburb of Crouch End and to expand the company’s existing, loyal customer base and further their reputation. The inspiration for the new restaurant came from Asian – the bustling street markets of Bangkok, the Singapore Shophouse architectural style, as well as Malaysian, Chinese, Japanese, Thai and Vietnamese influences. The spatial design is based on creating framed views. The kitchen is the central feature showcasing the inner workings of the restaurant, encouraging customers to peer in from the nook seating area to feel part of the action. A combination of unusual processes was used to achieve the finishes; OSB and aluminium wall cladding were effectively printed on to look like tongue and groove distressed paneling and create a balanced and authentic sophistication.
