Lions of Afghanistan

The brief was to design a football uniform for both the Afghanistan men and women's football teams, delivering a functional performance garment that would incorporate Muslim attire, within FIFA regulations. It should represent the best of Afghanistan to resonate with both men and women. The performance aspect of the female kit was met by designing the world's first base layer incorporating a hijab using sports performance materials, an integrated part of the football kit. This base layer functions as a traditional hijab, covering the female athletes from head to toe, defying boundaries while maintaining tradition. It is intended to help women perform at their best in their fight for equality and acceptance in football, and more importantly, Afghan society. Further design details reflect the richness of the Afghan culture and history. Calligraphy, jewellery and wood carving inspired the cuffs, pattern, and embossed lion, found on both the men’s and women's design.
