Rebecca Marsden AW16

The challenge for this AW16 collection was to design and create innovative, yet accessible and sustainable knitwear garments, reimagining the traditional craft of knitting and presenting it in a contemporary context by incorporating structured brass taping. The brass taping links to a design aesthetic which explores material qualities and aims to present them in a fresh, contemporary way and in the context of a collection concept. The title, Horizon Lines, explores the journeys that we all take, some chosen, some forced and where these journeys ultimately lead us. The outcome is a collection of garments combining sustainable mill end 100% cotton from a County Mayo mill and industrial brass tape. The focus, not only centres around elegance and functionality, but also on concept development, engagement with raw materials, the application of unique processes, the craftsmanship in the execution of these techniques and sustainability within design through material consideration and manufacturing.
