Dolmen and Ash have partnered for 20 years on a wide range of award winning optical devices improving the lives of those with visual impairments. Including pioneering digital magnification, and recently providing solutions for quality visual inspection. The brief was to deliver a fully integrated digital microscope and integrating all the required proprietory electronics. The challenge was to create a high-tech digital product as easy and intuitive to use as traditional microscopes. The project took visual and ergonomic cues from traditional optical devices and created a single, integrated rotary control dial. Functions are accessed using a single, intuitive circular interface, bringing traditional users on the journey to digital magnification. It is a hybrid solution, combining the precision of digital control with the high quality look and feel of traditional microscopes. The product is built using a robust aluminium chassis featuring a unique modular mounting system. The result is an elegant product and a simple, intuitive user experience.
