DESIGN CHALLENGE AND DESIGN IDEAS

In the Sicilian mountaintop village of Gangi, the pace of life is slow but the pace of change is comparatively fast. Linda Brownlee’s photos of the family of her Irish-Sicilian friend Aisling Farinella combine to form a sensitive and intimate portrait of life in this remote location. Having spent just four weeks capturing the images, Brownlee carefully refined the edit over the following two years, collecting the body of work with short texts from Farinella in this very special publication. The challenge was an exercise in restraint – allowing the imagery to spreak for itself and the brief moments of narrative to weave their way throughout the publication in a whisper of words.

HOW THE BRIEF WAS MET
