Firefly | GoTo Seat

The challenge was to make a mobile seat that could provide sufficient body support to enable children with physical disabilities, such as cerebral palsy, to participate in everyday activities with family and friends. For example: at the meal table, on a swing in the playground, at school, sitting on the floor or in a supermarket trolley seat. The business challenge was to produce a solution that could be scaled from batch to mass production, fitting a wide range of ages and sizes. The emotional response of "happy squeals" and non-association with typical remedial equipment was as important an ambition as the huge amount of rational functionality that is necessary. Through carefully nuanced form, materials, and choice of colours, the solution is inviting and inclusive. A comfortable and lightweight abdomen wrap provides sufficient lateral movement support. All fabric elements are hypo-allergenic, breathable and machine washable.
